A block is an area of internal storage, or space in the computer
memory, that the computer handles as a single unit.  A block on a 
UNIX system contains 512 or 1024 "bytes"\S*\S of information.
When a block is created it is labeled with a block number, which
is an integer that is used to identify the block.
