
\S shell script : shell program \S

A shell script or program is a series of commands written in "shell
language"\S*\S  and stored in a file. If the file is executable (see
"mode"\S*\S), you can have the shell execute the program by typing the 
"file name"\S*\S, the necessary "arguments"\S*\S, and a carriage
return.
